On 20 March 2025, at Nvidia's Quantum Day, Huang walked the remark back: "This is the first event in history where a company CEO invites all of the guests to explain why he was wrong" (CNBC). He named no revised range, so there is no new dated claim to track. This one stands as stated and resolves on its own criteria.

On 30 July 2026 IBM and Qedma announced a quantum-advantage result on commercially available IBM hardware and released the circuits to the Quantum Advantage Tracker for classical benchmarking. That is the claimant's own announcement, so it is logged without a signal. The claim scores confirmation by the wider community, which had not been established when this entry was captured.

Evidence gathered from the pre-registered resolver sources only. The criteria required a commercial customer to have RECEIVED AND OPERATED a system matching the 24-entangled-logical-qubit specification by 31 Dec 2025 plus the 30-day grace (30 Jan 2026), and said in advance that an order or a demo does not count.

One commercial sale is identifiable in the named sources: QuNorth (Denmark, funded by EIFO and the Novo Nordisk Foundation), which contracted in 2025 for Magne — an Atom Computing / Microsoft system specified at roughly 50 logical qubits on about 1,225 physical neutral atoms, announced July 2025 with construction beginning that autumn. As of 2 September 2026, more than seven months after the grace period closed, The Quantum Insider reports that the building intended to house Magne has only just been completed, that installation is beginning, and that the system is expected to be fully operational in spring 2027.

So no system was operating at a customer site inside the window — not at the announced 24-logical specification, and not at the differently-specified 50-logical one. That also rules out PARTIALLY_VERIFIED, which required a differently-specified system to have shipped in the window; none did. The January 2025 HPCwire roll-out report logged at intake describes an offering being made available, not a delivery — exactly the distinction the criteria fixed in advance, which is the whole reason it was fixed in advance.

Nothing here is a judgement about intent. Hardware schedules slip, and the original announcement was explicit that delivery was a 2025 plan. What the Ledger records is that the dated, falsifiable version of the claim did not come true inside its own window.

Evidence gathered from the pre-registered resolver sources only. The tracked target, as stated in IonQ's July 2024 roadmap announcement, was 99.999% (“five nines”) LOGICAL two-qubit gate fidelity using small-distance quantum error-correcting codes, by the end of 2025.

Inside the window (31 Dec 2025 plus the 30-day grace, i.e. by 30 Jan 2026) IonQ did publish a two-qubit gate result: on 20–21 October 2025 it reported a gate error of 8.4(7)×10⁻⁵ — about 99.9916% fidelity — using Electronic Qubit Control without ground-state cooling, demonstrated on prototype systems in IonQ's R&D labs (arXiv:2510.17286; IonQ newsroom; The Quantum Insider, 21 Oct 2025). That is a PHYSICAL (native) gate fidelity. No error-correcting code is involved, and it is measured on prototype hardware rather than a deployed system. It is a real advance, it was reported as a world record on the physical axis, and it comfortably clears the same roadmap's separate >99.9% native target — but it is not the claim tracked here. No result at or above 99.999% logical two-qubit gate fidelity with small-distance QEC codes appears in any named resolver source inside the window.

On the PARTIALLY_VERIFIED branch, recorded so the reading is auditable rather than assumed: the criteria offer that branch for “a result close to but short of five nines (e.g. four nines) … reported as the headline achievement instead.” The desk reads it as scoped to LOGICAL fidelity, because the sentence immediately before it forbids conflating the native figure with the logical one. A four-nines PHYSICAL result is a different measurement, not a near miss on the same one, so the branch does not fire.

This is a statement about a dated claim and its deadline, not about the people who made it.

Real-world consequence worth noting for context (not evidence toward the verdict): the comment briefly wiped tens of billions of dollars off publicly traded quantum companies' market capitalisation the same week, and Huang has since visibly softened the framing at subsequent public appearances -- a check-in for the desk to track is whether he has ever named a revised range, which would be a genuine restatement worth logging as its own event.

That absence of evidence is not itself a verdict -- it needs a deliberate resolution pass checking IonQ's own 2025 technical announcements and any arXiv papers before this can be marked NOT_VERIFIED rather than just resolvable.

Captured at seed. Worth noting for context: Rigetti's public roadmap has moved before -- an earlier iteration of this same roadmap targeted 100+ qubits with 99.5% median two-qubit fidelity specifically "by the end of 2025," reported the same week -- so the 2025 leg of this claim is the nearest-term thing to watch first.

Claim captured and its resolution criteria frozen on 2026-08-27. Resolves by 2025-12-31 (+30 day grace). Criteria: Resolves VERIFIED if a commercial customer actually received and operated a system matching the 24-entangled-logical-qubit specification by 31 Dec 2025 (plus grace) -- an order or a demo does not count, an operating delivered system does. PARTIALLY_VERIFIED if a related but differently-specified system shipped in the window (e.g. a different logical-qubit count) instead of the exact one announced. NOT_VERIFIED if no delivery happened in the stated window at all.

Claim captured and its resolution criteria frozen on 2026-08-27. Resolves by 2026-12-31 (+30 day grace). Criteria: This is a claim about a result already published (Science, DOI 10.1126/science.ado6285, “Beyond-Classical Computation in Quantum Simulation”), not a future promise -- so what is being tracked is not whether it happens, but whether it HOLDS UP against classical rebuttals, which is exactly the kind of claim a credibility tracker exists for. Resolves VERIFIED if no classical algorithm has, by the resolution date, matched D-Wave's reported accuracy/runtime on the same problem instances at the same or larger scale. NOT_VERIFIED if a peer-reviewed classical method has matched or beaten it at comparable scale. PARTIALLY_VERIFIED if classical methods match it at smaller scales tested so far (as the two rebuttals below currently claim) but have not yet been shown to scale to D-Wave's largest reported instances.

The Dec 2031 digital-signature deadline is a distinct, secondary check-in, not the primary resolution date.
Claim captured and its resolution criteria frozen on 2026-08-27. Resolves by 2040-01-06 (+30 day grace). Criteria: A genuinely hedged range, not a point claim, so it is tracked at both ends rather than forced into one deadline. EARLY-END check (this claim's primary resolves_by, 15 years out): if a quantum computer has, by 6 Jan 2040, solved a problem of real commercial or scientific value faster or cheaper than the best available classical alternative -- independently verified, not a vendor's own benchmark -- that falsifies even Huang's optimistic bound (NOT_VERIFIED: he was wrong on the early side too). If no such result exists by then, log a check-in and continue tracking toward the LATE-END gate, 6 Jan 2055 (30 years): if by then still no such result exists, that falsifies the claim from the other direction (NOT_VERIFIED: even the generous bound was too generous). VERIFIED only if the first genuine instance lands inside the window itself, closest to the ~20-year midpoint he named as the figure most people in the field would actually believe.

Claim captured and its resolution criteria frozen on 2026-08-27. Resolves by 2035-02-19 (+30 day grace). Criteria: This claim names no specific year -- “years, not decades” is a hedge, not a deadline, so it fails intake rule 4 (deadlined) as stated. SymbiQ's own falsifiability construction, flagged as such rather than attributed to Microsoft: resolves NOT_VERIFIED if, by 19 Feb 2035 (ten years from the claim, the outer edge of what “years, not decades” can plausibly mean before it is simply wrong), no topological-qubit system from Microsoft has demonstrated a problem of genuine industrial scale and consequence that a classical computer could not also solve. VERIFIED if one has. This is deliberately a lenient, favourable-to-the-claimant reading of a vague sentence.
